Healing Trauma

Chinese Medicine for Healing Trauma

Trauma can manifest in the body and mind in a variety of ways, and Chinese medicine is one of the oldest systems of medicine that recognizes the connection between the body and the mind. Research shows that acupuncture can help bring balance to the brain after recent exposure to stress and traumatic situations,  as well as creating resiliency for patients that have suffered the long term effects of trauma.

Trauma Response Suppresses the Immune System

Often the response to trauma is shock, which is not exactly an emotion but it is an intense emotional experience. Shock can combine with any other emotion and it can also become fuel for other emotions. For example the shock of loss or bereavement can lead to chronic sorrow. Physiologically, shock and trauma generate a sudden rush of cortisol in the body which can over time suppress the general immune system.

Healing Trauma Without Talking About It

Chinese medicine is particularly effective at treating shock and trauma because it can treat the root of the patient's distress, while simultaneously supporting their symptoms. All of this can be accomplished without having to talk about the traumatic experience. Acupuncture can access your body's ability to heal at a far deeper level. Essential Oils can be an additional option in treating trauma.

Healing the Effects of Trauma with Acupuncture

Acupuncture can be effective in treating the effects of trauma such as:
  • Chronic pain
  • Sleep disorders
  • Feelings of anxiety or sadness
  • Panic attacks
  • Issues with self esteem
  • Muscle aches and body pain
  • Fatigue
  • Digestive disorders
  • Preparation and recovery from surgery
  • Recovery from injury or motor vehicle accident
  • Feeling disconnected from your body or surroundings
